Happy Endings for Aspen

AspenAspenWhen Dave and Christina Short lost their beloved companion suddenly and unexpectedly, they weren't so sure that they were ready for another dog right away. Their previous dog Abby, had enjoyed an active and fulfilling life as a full-fledged member of their family, and they just weren't positive that another dog was the best way to go. But, grief has a funny way of driving us to find relief, so one night Dave decided to just look around on PetFinder.com and see what other doggies were out there that needed a home. Luckily for us, they stumbled upon our ad for Aspen, a sweet and gentle border collie mix puppy who nearly lost her life in the shelter just before Christmas. We didn't even have pictures of her up yet, but something about her description spoke to Dave, so he wrote and asked us for more info.

Aspen and ChristinaIt really seemed like a match made in heaven! We were so excited when Dave and Christine's application came through and we realized what an amazing and happy life a new dog could have with them. The only problem? They live in Vancouver, BC!! BDAR had never done an international adoption before. In fact, we had yet to have even shipped a dog. And because it was Aspen, who is petite and still a baby, and capable of winning over anyone she crosses paths with, we had our reservations about sending her on such a long trip. But, we all felt it worth the risk as our guts said this was the perfect match. And Dave and Christine (along with brand new baby girl!) were ready and eagerly anticipating the arrival of their new puppy.

So, Aspen went for a long trip. She had to fly to Houston and endure a long layover in the airline's kennels. Then, she boarded another plane and flew 6 hours to Vancouver where they picked her up after midnight! It was all worth it, and we shouldn't have worried. Aspen's indomitable spirit pulled her through and Dave reported that even after her very long day he could hear her tail thumping the inside of her kennel before he ever even saw her.

The family reports that Aspen is settling in fine and is a wonderful addition to their family. She likes to follow Dave around the house and enjoys chewing on rawhide toys they give her. She goes for long walks with mom and baby and has decided she is quite comfortable on the couch - thank you very much!
