A Poem for Maya
Why own a dog? There's a danger you know,
You can't own just one, for the craving will grow.
With dogs on the sofa and dogs on the bed,
And dogs in the kitchen, it's no bother, you've said.
They're really no trouble, their manners are great.
What's one more dog and just one more crate?
The sofa is hairy, the windows are crusty,
The floor is all footprints, the furniture dusty.
The housekeeping suffers, but what do you care?
Who minds a few noseprints and a little more hair?
So adopt this sweet dog, you can always find room,
And a little more time for the dust cloth and broom.
Is it worth it you wonder? Are you caught in a trap?
Then that sweet pup comes and climbs in your lap.
The whole thing is worth it, your dogs are your life.
They're charming and funny and offset the strife.
Apply for dear Maya, the sweetest old lady hound.
We know you’ll never regret her being around!
She bays and she sleeps, she snuggles and eats,
And is happy to rest comfortably at your feet.
So why own a dog? The reasons are endless.
But mainly it’s so you’ll never be friendless.
Maya can love you forever, in the most special way,
So head to bdar.org and apply for her today!
Thanks to a generous Senior Pet Grant from The Petfinder Foundation, Maya's adoption fee, and one year of her limited ingredient food and allergy medication will be covered by BDAR after adoption.
