What we are watching:

House Bill 96 (HB0096) Treatment of Animals
This bill prohibits the use of high‑altitude decompression chambers, carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide or any non-anesthetic inhalant as a method for euthanasia of household pets.

We support this bill because it will eliminate the last remaining gas chambers used for inhumane euthanasia in the State. Contact your representatives >>

Senate File 25 (SF0025) Animal impound proceedings - bond & disposition
This bill provides protections against financial losses to impounding agencies and to animals against further physical or psychological trauma as a result of prolonged impoundment in cases where charges are pending against the animal's owners. Defendants in these cases would now be required, under this new statute, to post a bond for the reasonable cost of care for their animals within ten days of the initial impoundment. Or, they may be required to surrender the animal to the impounding agency while their case progresses through the court system.

We support this bill because it relieves some financial burden for the agency caring for impounded animals (costs can often sore to the tens of thousands of dollars and are absorbed by donors and tax-payers) and can significantly lower the amount of time a pet will spend in an agency awaiting the end of court proceedings (often times 6+ months). Senate File 26 (SF0026) Animal abuse statutes reorganization and update
This bill is a noncontroversial clean-up of the Chapter 6 animal cruelty statute. It seeks to provide a long-overdue reorganization of the statue, providing a more cohesive structure and grouping similar level offenses together. It does not add new protections for animals.

We support this bill because the old statute was in need of updating to better differentiate between household pets and livestock. Contact your senators >>

House Bill 46 (HB0046) Crime of bestiality
This bill creates the crime of bestiality in the State of Wyoming, provides definitions and a penalty. We support the addition of this bill. Contact your representatives >>
